pH in Hydroponics:
Plants can only use a nutrient solution if the is pH corrected. Different nutrients are absorbed in different pH levels so some hydroponic growers let their pH drift slightly, always toward alkalinity. In hydroponics, the ideal range for most plants is between 5.2 to 6.2, although some plants prefer extremes in acidity or alkalinity. It is always best to use pH water stabilisers when adjusting the pH of a solution. Always adjust the pH AFTER adding nutrients. Tap water is usually alkaline and the pH can range from 6.8 to 8.2, depending on the local water source.

WHEN USING THE METER:
A new probe has to be 'run in', so always check your calibration every week for the first 4 weeks, then every 2 weeks and then at least once a month.
If you suspect the reading to be wrong, clean the probe and check the batteries.
Ensure you calibrate your meter frequently using pH calibration solution.
Keep the probe moist and clean. If you see residue build-up on the probe, clean gently with a soft toothbrush and vinegar.
To prolong the life of your pH meter and prevent its probe from drying out, we suggest you consider buying a storage solution, click here
