There are two types of high-intensity discharge bulbs generally used in horticulture - Metal Halide (MH) and High-Pressure Sodium (HPS). Neither covers the entire light spectrum for ideal plant growth, so two different bulbs are needed to get the widest available spectrum.
Dual-arc bulbs emit two different spectrums, one from the MH and one from the HPS. Combining these two spectrums is ideal for all plant growth.
Dual-arc bulbs house an HPS bulb and an MH bulb. The 1000w bulb has a 600w HPS and a 400w MH. By incorporating both bulbs, dual-arcs will provide a wider spectrum of lighting to your plants.
HOW WELL DOES IT WORK?
Some growers fear that by using dual-arc bulbs, they'll end up with mediocre lighting during veg and bloom. But dual-arc bulbs are very effective. They emit a full spectrum of light that covers a plant's entire life cycle from the vegetative stage (blue spectrum - MH) right up to the flowering stage (red spectrum - HPS).
