The green 7cm DynaBall is UV-protected. Peel away a bit of 'bark' on the plant you want to propagate. Fill the plastic ball with compost, then wrap it around the peeled area. Roots should form within a few weeks.
WHAT IS AIR LAYERING?
It is a method of cloning where the clones maintain a connection with the mother plant. Seeds are not always identical to the parent plant, but air layering propagation produces plants that carry all the genetics of the parent. The clone will establish a healthy root system by taking in nutrients from the mother plant without damaging her.
PROS:
With the right know-how, this can be an easy and successful way to clone. You could see new roots in as little as 14 days. Air layering takes up less space than cloning from cuttings, so fewer pots are needed.
CONS:
There is a wound on your mother plant; a potential site for infection. The clone will take more nutrients from the mother, which could stress her.
TIPS FOR AIR-LAYERING:
You must use a female plant in the vegetative stage that is big and strong. Using a rooting gel is optional. Remember to keep the medium inside the DynaBall moist or you'll soon have a dead branch on your plant. After a few weeks, roots should be visible from the wound site. Simply cut the branch below the DynaBall, open it and remove the young clone and transplant it.
