The Heat Spreader is an accessory for HID lighting and is best used with bulbs 400w to 1000w. 

Prevent stretching and fight hot spots with a heat shield. Place underneath your lamp to spread light and heat evenly across the canopy. With one of these, you can bring your light closer to the plants without burning or stretching them. You'll get no more hot spots either. If you haven’t got much headroom in your tent, one of these is ideal.
