High-Pressure Sodium (HPS) bulbs are HID (High-intensity Discharge) lights used in horticultural applications to mimic winter's sunlight. Due to the change in seasons and aspect, the winter months receive more red light and shorter daylight hours which encourages stem and/or flower production. HPS bulbs are ideally used during the fruiting/blooming phase of any plant that fruits during winter. A 1000w bulb is capable of illuminating up to 1.5m2.
